With the economy in the crapper, and plenty of people electing to stay close to home this summer, everyone can use a little break and enjoy some time outdoors on the cheap. To that end, the U.S. National Park Service has announced three fee free weekends for the summer of 2009. On these dates, you'll be able to get into any one of the more than 100 national parks in the U.S. without having to pay the cover charge. Best of all, the first weekend is slated for this week, just in time for Father's Day.
The complete list of dates follows:
June 20-21, 2009 (Father’s Day weekend)
July 18-19, 2009
August 15-16, 2009
To sweeten the deal even further, the some of the concessioners that operate within the parks are also offering some deals on the free weekends. You can check those out by clicking here.
Seems like a perfect time to hit your favorite park this summer. Schedules some time with dad this weekend, then use the other two dates for your own fun.

They are fee free, but , for example ,if you want to climb Mt Rainier or Mt St. Helen , you still have to pay for climbing permits.
Right. Entry fees are free. Climbing permits and the like will still cost you for some obvious reasons.
Great oportunity to visit the parts. We love the ones in the southwest part of the US. We have lots of our parks adventures on our blog site: myfjcruiser.org
